Our Journey as Browns Backers
From small meetups to an official Browns Backers Worldwide chapter, here’s how our island community made history.
Conversations Turned Commitment
From Island Fans to an Official Chapter
For years, Browns fans on Pelee Island talked about creating a chapter. The idea came up at cottages, barns, restaurants, and even tailgating at live games. By 2024, the interest was undeniable, and when applications opened for 2025, we finally decided to stop talking and make it happen.
Small Island, Big Spirit
It Started With a Passion
Pelee Island is unlike anywhere else. With fewer than 200 year-round residents, the community is almost evenly split between Canadians and Americans — many of them from Cleveland and northern Ohio. Despite being a small Canadian island, the Dawg Pound spirit here runs deep, and the Browns fan base is much larger than most would expect.
Before becoming official, we gathered wherever we could — cottages, barns, or local bars — to watch games together. Some of us even traveled as a group to attend Browns games. The spirit of a chapter was already alive; it just needed an official name.
Making It Official
Becoming Part of Browns Backers Worldwide
In May 2025, we submitted our application to join Browns Backers Worldwide, and by August we were approved. That recognition made Pelee Island home to the southernmost Browns Backers chapter in Canada.
This year marks our soft launch — recruiting members, hosting watch parties, and figuring out what works best for our island community. Next year, we plan to go bigger with events and fundraisers, solidifying our place in both the Browns family and island life.
The Perfect Home
Why The Dog & Goat Restaurant?
Choosing Dog & Goat Restaurant as our official watch party location was easy. While most island businesses operate seasonally, Dog & Goat serves the community year-round. That makes it the perfect spot for locals, visitors, and Browns fans no matter the time of year.
And let’s be honest — with a name like Dog & Goat, what better place could there be for the Dawg Pound?
Beyond the Field
More Than Football
Being part of Browns Backers Worldwide connects us to one of the largest fan networks in all of sports. It allows us to welcome visitors, learn from other chapters, and show the world just how much pride a small island can have for its team.
But it’s also about community. Our chapter hopes to grow beyond game days by hosting annual events like cornhole tournaments, fishing derbies, and family fun days. We plan to raise funds for local causes, donate to Pelee Island’s school, and invite special guests to join us for unforgettable events.
Eyes on the Future
Looking Ahead
We’re proud of what we’ve started, but we’re even more excited about what’s to come. Our goals are simple but ambitious:
- Grow to 100+ members
- Host raffles and fundraisers to support the island
- Create annual events that become traditions for fans and families
The Pelee Island Browns Backers were born out of passion, and now that passion has a home. Whether you’re a year-round islander, a summer visitor, or just passing through, you’ll always have a place with us in the Dawg Pound.
